The Zenith Med tourniquet model ZTH-4030 is a product from the Zenith Med brand, designed as an elastic band that is wrapped around a limb to prevent blood flow through that pathway. This product is made from strong fabric fibers with compressed plastic connections. The Zenith Med tourniquet model ZTH-4030 works by applying pressure to the skin, temporarily occluding arteries and veins, thereby temporarily stopping blood flow in that limb and helping to reduce or stop bleeding.
This product is used in orthopedic surgeries to prevent bleeding during the procedure and in medical emergencies. It is applied to the patient’s arm or leg, and by reducing bleeding, it provides a better view for the surgeon. The Zenith Med tourniquet model ZTH-4030 also has the capability to stabilize the vein, as wrapping the tourniquet around the vein creates filtration pressure that increases the viscosity of the blood.
The pressure of the tourniquet should always be less than the systolic pressure to prevent fluid from passing through a closed vein. If the tourniquet is tied too tightly, the filtration pressure increases, which can negatively affect the quality of the sample.
To use the Zenith Med tourniquet model ZTH-4030, it should be firmly tied above the venipuncture site (toward the heart). Then, the injection site should be scrubbed and disinfected with an alcohol pad or cotton. The blood collection needle is then inserted into the artery, and immediately after ensuring the needle is correctly positioned, the Zenith Med tourniquet model ZTH-4030 should be released to collect the required blood volume and then withdraw the needle. An alcohol pad or adhesive should be held over the venipuncture site for a few seconds to stop the bleeding and prevent bruising at the injection site.
For proper blood collection, the Zenith Med tourniquet model ZTH-4030 must be securely fastened in place and should not be released until the nurse or sampler has completed the procedure.
