Sebum or oil is one of the compounds secreted by sebaceous glands. The sebaceous glands are responsible for protecting the hair; however, sometimes due to excessive secretion, the hair becomes oily, sticks to the scalp, and appears unkempt. Hair loss, dandruff, pimples, and skin infections are other side effects of excessive oil secretion.
